Blaugust 2026 #1: Why & Personal Goals

I am late - but I have read that in fact, I am not TOO late to join in on Blaugust 2026.
Ever since moving to Bear Blog from Substack/WP and going back to reading personal blogs (less short form social media and “creator economy” blogs), I’ve been finding more and more of a whole new internet world. It felt like stepping through a portal that found me at the right time, although I wish I had found it sooner.
I like it here.
Anyways, I came across a blog on Bear Blog’s Discover feed that mentioned Blaugust. So, natural curiousity led me to Krikket’s posts on the month long blogging festival and the sad news of the founder’s passing. :(
I’d like to participate (if that’s okay) so I signed up and joined the Discord.
But, since I am behind on the prompts - I might do a few in one or try to catch up a bit!
I guess I already covered “What made you decide to do Blaugust this year…” but perhaps now can talk about “…and what are your personal goals?”
Personal goals:
I’d LOVE to post everyday from now until the end of August.
When I started the Bear Blog here, it was mainly to have a blog where I could pay once and never again (subscriptions make my eyes twitch) and also have something that will last hopefully. As well as being on a simple site that didn’t use AI, Ads, or tracking/theft of data…and mesh all of my hobbies and topics together…
It’s also to get me back into the habit of regular blogging which also interrupts my itch to scroll on tiktok. I’ve made it a rule now to only go on the Friends tab and to have something to post before I open the app. Tiktok for me is primarily for sharing with book friends with some garden stuff thrown in here and there.
Otherwise, the app is far too addicting and I’ll find myself on the later end of 2-3 hours on a bad day, feeling sick and icky and wanting to throw my phone away.
The return to blogging for me is a way to redirect and retrain myself to not get into that trap of scrolling.
So here we are! I’ll say hi in the Discord, and do need to set up a guest book here when I can figure it out :) See ya round!
